LG Washer UE Error Code (uE / Ub): Unbalanced Load Fix

Meaning

UE on an LG washer means the machine detected an unbalanced load and stopped before spinning, because the laundry is piled on one side of the drum. The first thing to try is almost always the fix: pause the cycle, open the door, and spread the clothes out evenly around the drum.

⚠ Safety first. If you need to check suspension parts or move the washer, unplug it from the wall and shut off the water supply first. Front-load washers are very heavy, so get a second person to help lift or tilt the machine and avoid straining your back.

What the LG `UE` code means

LG washers monitor drum balance before every high-speed spin. When the weight is concentrated on one side, the machine will not spin fast, because a badly unbalanced drum can slam against the cabinet and damage itself. There are two versions on the display. A lowercase uE means the washer is still working the problem on its own: it adds water, sloshes the load around, drains, and tries again. After about three failed attempts it switches to an uppercase UE, which means the automatic rebalancing gave up and needs your help. Some LG models show Ub for the same unbalanced condition. All three point to the same root issue: the drum could not be balanced well enough to spin safely.

Adjust the load size — if you are washing one heavy item, add a few smaller items so the drum has something to balance against; if the drum is packed, remove some.
Wash bulky items correctly — pillows, cushions, rugs, and waterproof items resist balancing, so wash them alone on a low spin or a bulky cycle.
Level the machine — set a bubble level on top, rock the washer front to back and side to side, and adjust the leveling feet with a wrench until the cabinet sits firm and does not move.
Confirm shipping bolts are removed — on a recently installed front-loader, check that all transit bolts were taken out of the rear panel.
Run an empty rinse and spin — with nothing in the drum, start a rinse and spin. If UE still appears on an empty, level machine, the problem is likely mechanical.
Inspect the suspension — with the machine unplugged, check top-load suspension rods or front-load shock absorbers and springs for looseness, leaking damper fluid, or wear, and replace worn parts as a set.
Consider the control last — if balance hardware checks out, a faulty balance sensor or main control board can misread the load, but this is rare and worth confirming with a technician.

Why does my LG washer keep saying UE on every load?

If UE returns on every load regardless of what is inside, the cause is usually not the laundry. Start by confirming the machine is level and does not rock, then run an empty rinse and spin. If the error persists on an empty, level machine, suspect worn shock absorbers or suspension rods, a failing balance sensor, or, on a new install, transit bolts still in place.

What is the difference between uE and UE?

Lowercase uE means the washer is still trying to rebalance the load automatically by adding water and re-spinning. Uppercase UE appears after those attempts fail and means you need to open the door and redistribute the laundry yourself.

Can a single towel or bath mat cause the UE code?

Yes. One heavy item on its own cannot balance the drum, so the washer cannot spin it safely. Add a few more items of similar weight, or wash bulky pieces on a slower spin, and the code usually clears.
