Defrost, evaporator-fan, and sensor faults — and which lookalike codes on the same display mean something entirely different.

How refrigerator code families work
Most refrigerator fault codes trace back to the defrost system rather than the compressor: LG’s Er FF is a freezer evaporator-fan fault whose most common cause is ice from a failed defrost cycle jamming the fan blade, while Samsung’s 5E points at the defrost sensor circuit itself — usually a worn-out thermistor or a corroded connector, not the board. The two guides below share the same safety boundary: unplug the refrigerator before removing the rear freezer panel, melt ice with ambient air or low heat rather than chipping at it (one punctured evaporator tube turns a cheap repair into a sealed-system job), and leave the compressor and refrigerant lines to a licensed technician.

LG Refrigerator Er FF — Freezer Evaporator-Fan Fault
LG refrigerator Er FF means the freezer evaporator fan isn’t spinning — usually ice from a failed defrost. Safe reset, thaw, and fan-fix steps.
