Meaning

4C on a Samsung washer means the machine cannot fill with water correctly — it started a cycle but the expected amount of water did not arrive in time. The most common reason is a restricted water supply, so the very first check is that both wall taps are fully open and the fill hoses are not kinked.

What the Samsung 4C code means

The 4C code is a water supply error. During fill, the washer measures how fast the tub is filling. If it does not reach the target water level within the allowed time, it stops and reports a supply fault. On many panels the same fault appears as 4E, and on older Samsung models it can show as nc — all three are the same water inlet problem. The washer is telling you that water is not getting in fast enough, not that a single specific part has failed, so the fix is a process of checking the supply path from the tap inward.

How to fix it, in order

  1. Confirm both taps are fully open — trace each hose back to the wall and turn hot and cold taps all the way on. This clears the fault more often than anything else.
  2. Unkink and inspect the hoses — pull the washer forward and make sure each hose has a smooth, wide bend with no crushed spots. In cold climates, rule out a frozen hose.
  3. Test the pressure and flow — the supply should sit within roughly 0.5 to 8 bar. If a nearby tap trickles, the problem is your household supply, not the washer.
  4. Clean the inlet mesh screens — turn off the taps, unscrew the hoses from the back of the washer, and use needle-nose pliers to gently pull the small mesh filters out of each inlet. Rinse them under running water until clear, then reseat them.
  5. Check both hot and cold inlets — a dual-valve washer can throw the code if either side is starved, so clean and confirm flow on both connections, not just one.
  6. Clean the dispenser drawer — remove the drawer, wash out detergent buildup, and clear the housing so water can pass freely.
  7. Reconnect and run a rinse — reattach the hoses hand-tight plus a small additional turn, restore the taps, and start a short rinse or spin cycle to test the fill.
  8. Suspect the inlet valve last — if supply, hoses, screens, and pressure are all good and the code returns, the water inlet valve is the likely failed part and should be tested or replaced.

FAQ

Is 4C the same as 4E on a Samsung washer?

Yes. Newer Samsung panels display 4C and older ones display 4E (or nc) for the exact same water supply fault. Follow the same checks regardless of which one you see.

How is 4C different from 4C2?

They are not the same. 4C2 is a hot water error: the washer detects water that is too hot on the cold inlet, usually because the hot and cold hoses are reversed (match blue to blue, red to red), or the hot supply is simply too hot — some repair sources put the trigger around 50 degrees Celsius. For 4C2, confirm the cold hose feeds the cold inlet and the hot hose feeds the hot inlet before anything else.

How often should I clean the inlet mesh filters?

Cleaning the mesh screens about twice a year prevents sediment and scale from building up and is the simplest way to avoid a repeat 4C code, especially in hard-water areas.
