Meaning
4C (also shown 4E) is a water-supply fault, not a dryer heating problem — and it is not a code Samsung uses on standalone dryers. If you are seeing it on something you call a “dryer,” you almost certainly have a Samsung washer-dryer combo (one drum that both washes and dries) or a washer, and the machine did not receive enough water in time to fill. Start by checking that the supply tap is fully open and the inlet hose is not kinked.

What the Samsung 4C code means
On Samsung laundry machines, 4C and 4E both mean the machine detected a problem getting water in — it did not fill to the expected level within the allotted time. A standalone Samsung dryer has no water connection and does not use this code; Samsung’s own dryer code lists do not include 4C or 4E. So the code reaches a “dryer” in only three ways: (1) you have a combination washer-dryer that fills with water to wash; (2) you are reading a washer, not a dryer; or (3) you are misreading a Samsung dryer’s vent-clog codes, which are Cg, C80 (~80% blocked) or C90 (~90% blocked), not 4C. It is not a heating fault — Samsung dryer heating problems show as HC, hE, or HC4. On some models a related 4C2 means the incoming water is too hot (a hot hose fitted to the cold inlet).

- Confirm the machine type — a standalone dryer should not show this code. Check the model number: if it is a washer-dryer combo or washer, continue; if it is a plain dryer, the panel/board needs service.
- Open the tap fully — both taps if the machine uses hot and cold.
- Power off and unplug — then straighten the inlet hose and check for kinks or, in winter, ice.
- Clean the mesh filters — shut the water, unscrew the inlet hose(s), and rinse the little screens at the valve inlet.
- Check pressure and hose routing — confirm decent flow at the tap and that hot/cold hoses are on the correct inlets.
- Restore power and test — if the code returns with water flowing freely to the machine, the inlet valve or control board is suspect and needs a technician.

- Water inlet valve — the electrically-operated fill valve; the usual failed part when the supply is confirmed good.
- Inlet mesh filter screens — the removable strainers at the valve inlet that clog with sediment.

Checking the tap, hose, and mesh filters is a beginner job of 10–30 minutes with a bucket and pliers. Replacing an inlet valve is intermediate — roughly an hour with the machine pulled out and the back panel off. Anything pointing at the control board is a technician call.

Is 4C a heating problem on my Samsung dryer?
